First: Choosing your DP subject choices:
This depends on the country and the university you’re applying to because they may have preferences for certain subjects...
To meet the minimum requirements you must:
Take Chemistry Higher Level.
Choose from HL Biology, HL Physics, and HL Maths.
There are six subject groups in the IB:
IB Groups 1-3: Includes essay subjects. Choose according to your interests.
IB Group 4: Includes the sciences. Remember that Chemistry is required.
IB Group 5: Includes mathematics. Higher level maths is recommended, but if that’s not possible you may take standard level. However, please take note that maths studies will not be sufficient.
IB Group 6: Includes the arts. It is recommended that you choose another subject from the sciences (Biology and Physics) instead for a more competitive application.
For the relevant Higher Level subjects, the grade requirements are 7,7,6. The total grade should be at least 40, including points from Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay components.
TAKE NOTE OF THE FACTS OUTLINED BELOW AS WELL:
In the last three years, 98% of applicants for Medicine at Cambridge University were taking Chemistry and two further subjects out of Biology (or Human Biology), Maths and Physics to A level, IB Higher Level, or equivalent.
Of the 98% of applicants to Cambridge University who offered three or more science/mathematics A levels (or equivalent), 30% were successful in obtaining a place.
Of the 2% of applicants who offered only two science/mathematics subjects to A Level (or equivalent), just 6% were successful in gaining a place.
