On Tuesday, June 18th, at 7 pm, Nations will play host to some of the greatest characters in Opera - Carmen, Don Quixote and Xerxes - as well as some more modern personalities - Mrs Lovett from Sweeney Todd and Maria from West Side Story. Arias and songs between the 1650s and the 20th century will grace the stage of the Nations Aula, performed by none other than the Nations students themselves and the Nations Camerata, accompanied by Shauna Beesley.
The participants themselves are very excited about the performance - of course, Opera singing takes years to master and they haven’t had much practice, but the music is powerful and beautiful enough to please even when performed by less experienced singers. The event is likely to be enjoyable for performers and audience alike, since it is a vibrant celebration of Opera’s opulence and rigour: great music, literature, and voices, amazing costumes, lighting and scenery.
All proceeds from the evening will go to the Red Cross. The tickets will be sold at 10chf for students and 20chf for adults. See Dr Close for tickets or get them at the door.
