Beneath the singing tides

In the depths of the long-dead ocean’s floor,
A siren dreamed of something more
Her sisters sang with wicked grace
To draw them in - feed, then chase
They dance on the waves with crimson glee
Their voices laced with utmost tragedy
They offered joy within every breath
And kissed their prey to song-wrapped death
But she - the pearl, the quiet one
Would hide away from the moon and sun
No need for flesh, no need for gold
She longed for love, not hearts grown cold
The fairest face the sea could birth
Could charm the gods or shake the earth
Yet beauty means so little there
For she desired not looks, but care
She never sought the sailor’s screams
But dreamed instead of a brighter dream
So when her kin rose from the deep
To lure the lost, to make them weep
She turned aside, the silence her friend
And sat alone where darkness would bend
She sits in the shadows and silence hides
And watches her life pass
Beneath the sinking tides
