Beneath the singing tides

In the depths of the long-dead ocean’s floor,

A siren dreamed of something more

Her sisters sang with wicked grace

To draw them in - feed, then chase

They dance on the waves with crimson glee

Their voices laced with utmost tragedy

They offered joy within every breath

And kissed their prey to song-wrapped death

But she - the pearl, the quiet one

Would hide away from the moon and sun

No need for flesh, no need for gold

She longed for love, not hearts grown cold

The fairest face the sea could birth

Could charm the gods or shake the earth

Yet beauty means so little there

For she desired not looks, but care

She never sought the sailor’s screams

But dreamed instead of a brighter dream

So when her kin rose from the deep

To lure the lost, to make them weep

She turned aside, the silence her friend

And sat alone where darkness would bend

She sits in the shadows and silence hides

And watches her life pass
