Unfortunate Start to February for the Netball Team

It was not the start to February that the Nations netball team had hoped for. In a series of matches held at the International Institute of Lancy (IIL), the Foxes came a dismaying last out of four schools. The International School of Lausanne (ISL) took first spot, with Nations’ bitter rivals, La Chat, coming second. IIL, quite surprisingly, took third spot. It was an unlucky night for Flying Foxes, who held up each game quite well in the first half but let it slip away in the second.

The closest of them all was the game against IIL, in which the game was tied at half time. The Nations girls had not expected to be in the game at all but put in an excellent performance to bring the game to the hosts. Despite their hard-fought efforts, the Foxes barely lost out in a game that really should’ve been theirs.

“I was slightly disappointed we didn’t win against IIL because I really thought our team gelled well together and we had some good teamwork going on. We finally got into the flow as a team, with perfect combinations and in the end we were just unfortunate not to get the win” said Caitlin Tan, Year 12.

To add misery to a bad day, team Nations were hit by an injury blow to goalkeeper Alex Fenton. Fenton twisted her ankle badly after landing awkwardly from a jump and had to be taken off. Luckily, the team has many goalkeepers to deputise in her absence.

It was not a completely bad night though, and a couple of positives actually came out of it. One of the big pluses of the night was Amy from year 10. The young shooter was playing one of her first games for the seniors and put in a brilliant performance, scoring many of her shots. Coach Burt will certainly be optimistic after this performance. Hopefully the next series of matches will bring more wins.

A special mention goes to Hannah Coyle, Ana van der Ree, and Caitlin Tan for winning the best player awards in the three respective games of the day.
